An infectious disease results from the presence of a pathogenic microbial organism. These organisms can be bacterium, fungi, protozoa, parasites, viruses, or prions. Pathogenic microbial agents can easily infect plants, animals, and people. These diseases are highly contagious and are commonly transmitted from person to person.
It has been noted in history that infectious diseases were sometimes the cause of large toll deaths in communities, even being responsible for wiping out an entire town. Fortunately, today's medical technology and reseach has successfully created cures and vaccines to cause these diseases to become almost instinct. However, in some third world countries, these historical infectious diseases still exist and can cause epidemics worldwide. The American government funds a department,Center for Disease Control and Prevention, that deals with these infectious, spreadable diseases and prevents or contains any probably threat to humankind.
Now you know the basic responsibilities of the Center of Disease Control and prevention and the fundamentals of a an infectious disease, you have a job to do! You will need to research more on pathogenic microbial agents, transmissions and how they cause diseases. You will also be presented with a rare case study and be required to diagnosis and provide treatment for the patient. It is a tough job, but is worth doing! So good luck and be swift, time is of the essence!!
